Follow the complete garment

Care instructions account for more than the main fiber. Dyes, trims, interfacing and blends can change what is appropriate. Start with the label and the maker’s advice.

Make cleaning intentional

Air garments when appropriate, deal with small marks promptly and wash when needed. Match the cleaning method to the item instead of applying one routine to everything.

Support, dry, store

Wet knitwear may stretch under its own weight. Reshape pieces as directed, let them dry fully and store clean. Avoid excessive heat unless explicitly permitted.

Repair while the problem is small

A loose button, open seam or thinning elbow is easier to address early. Good care does not guarantee permanence, but it gives a well-made garment more opportunities to be worn.
