How it is made

Two or more neighboring warps pass together over and under groups of wefts. The example is a balanced 2 by 2 basket; unequal groupings are also possible.

How to recognize it

Look for small woven blocks, with neighboring yarns following the same path.

What to distinguish

The grouped crossings separate basket weave from a single-thread plain weave; Oxford is a familiar uneven variation.
