Single jersey is a plain knit with visibly different front and back surfaces.

How it is made

One set of needles forms connected loops. The face shows the legs of the stitches; the reverse shows their rounded crowns.

How to recognize it

Look for small V shapes in vertical columns on the face and a more bumpy reverse.

What to distinguish

Jersey names a construction, not a fiber. Interlock has a different double-knit structure and more similar surfaces.
