Cable knit

Cable knitting crosses groups of stitches to make raised ropes, braids or traveling lines.

How it is made

Some stitches are held in front or behind while neighboring stitches are worked. Working the held stitches afterward changes their order and creates a crossing.

An Aran-style sweater may combine cables with several other textures; cable knit does not describe the whole tradition.
